Anniversaries come once a year, every year, but apart from having to remember a separate date, they are often considered to be nothing more than a glorified ‘second valentine’s day’.
Some people feel as if Valentine’s Day is a day made for the girlfriends and wives of the world, whereas an anniversary is more of an event for all parties to get involved in. That being said, whether you celebrate your anniversary with vigour, or you barely remember to grab a card, a gift is something that will always help to cheer up the day, even if it is something small.

Booking the Day Off to do Something Together
The chances are, your partner will enjoy spending time with you and they will like spending time with you one on one. So why not give them a treat and book the day off work to do something together? It could be a special event such as rock-climbing or abseiling, or something simple and exciting such as walking around London and seeing the sights. It all depends on what you think they will enjoy, and what they have time for. Sometimes just a surprise day off from work is a great way of saying you care, as it gives them time to relax and enjoy life without having to worry about getting back to all their responsibilities.
Cook a Favourite Meal
This is an old favourite. If your partner normally does all the cooking, or you like to share the responsibility, why not take it all onto your plate for the evening and cook them up a treat? Try to be creative with your meal choice and give them something you know they’ll like, but jazz it up a little. For example, they may like Mexican food, so why not try your hand at making your own? If they’re a fan of sweet things, a fun ‘dessert-only’ meal would be a great idea, as it is not something they would likely think of themselves. Doing something different on an anniversary is one way of creating lasting memories, and brings them back into that childlike glee of having a treat on a special occasion.
If you’re celebrating a milestone anniversary, you might want to get something that marks the occasion. Glass is a fantastic gift to give because it serves many purposes, comes in all shapes, sizes and colours and can be tailored to suit the tastes of the individual. Whether they like their alcohol (tumbler or decanter) they are a fan of the animal kingdom (glass animal figurine), or they simply like collectables (commemorative, personalised anniversary plate) the pure beauty of glass is that it can be created to suit literally anything.
Something a Little Different
Allow me to explain. There are sentimental gifts and there are gifts that your partner has had their eye on for months on end, there are practical gifts and then there are gifts that are a little different. Gifts that represent an aspect of someone’s personality, a hobby or habit of theirs, or an old past time. Gifts that your partner might have seen once in a store or online and though ‘that is cool, but I could never buy it’. Something that they wouldn’t think to buy for themselves. That is what I’m talking about.
Buying something that they appreciate, such as a decorative sword or a signed poster, is a way of showing your love as well as touching on their appreciation of a certain subject. It might be something that they have always wanted to own, but thought it would be a silly thing for an ‘adult’ to buy, or some other reason they might have told themselves in order to avoid disappointment. By buying this gift for your partner, you absolve them of all responsibility, which then allows them to fully enjoy the gift. No strings attached. It is a great way to show your love.
Ultimately, personal time spent together is worth far more than any gift, so by giving your time up to spend a day with your partner, you are already giving them a great gift. However, don’t use this as an excuse! Some partners will be fine without a ‘physical’ gift, whereas others may have put effort into a gift of their own and may be disappointed if you don’t return the favour. Every couple is different, so remember what works for you and play it safe. Have a fantastic anniversary.
